Bought a game key from a third-party store and not sure how to redeem it on Steam? Follow this step-by-step guide to activate your CD key in under 5 minutes.
Open the Steam client on your PC and sign in with your username and password. Make sure you have an active internet connection. If you have Steam Guard enabled (recommended), you will need to approve the login from the Steam mobile app.
Look at the bottom-left corner of the Steam client window. Next to your friends list, you will see a button labeled "ADD A GAME..." — click it to open the dropdown menu.
From the dropdown menu that appears, select the option "Activate a Product on Steam..." This will open the product activation wizard that guides you through the redemption process.
The product activation dialog will appear. Read the instructions, then click the "NEXT" button to continue past the welcome screen.

Copy and paste (or carefully type) your CD key into the text field. A valid Steam key consists of 25 characters arranged in 5 groups separated by hyphens (format: XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX). Click "NEXT" to verify and redeem the key.
